Style & Champagne at Milk

New York City hadn’t seen a rainstorm quite like it had on Thursday in a while. It didn’t weary the guests that attended the Michel COMTE and MILK collaboration: A Collaboration 1996-2016, not one bit. After mixing and mingling with others at the event, it was hardly a blur of people. Instead, it was incredibly refreshing to see each person’s unique personality and style stand out—the perfect mix of individuals that were not going to let a few rain clouds take away their shine. Tim Richardson: Spiritual Machine Gallery Opening

A fusion of classical and futurist motifs filtered through technology adorned the walls of the Milk Gallery NYC last week at the private opening for Tim Richardson’s Spiritual Machine. Richardson’s images move far beyond the camera, exploring the figure and fashion through motion capture, scanning, and 3D imaging which became apparent each corner we turned throughout the show. The gallery is showing pieces that were editorial gems from magazines like Vogue Hommes Japan, V magazine, and Dazed and Confused– just to name a few. Julie and I mixed and mingled through the artsy crowd which was an exhibit and scene in itself. My favorite part about attending these events is the people watching: the clothing is amazing and such characters are so interesting to meet! Check out my photos to see our adventure unravel. The exhibit will be held at Milk Gallery until May 31st— grab some coffee at the Chelsea Market and go pop in and see the art in person before it’s gone!

iiJin Mixes and Matches Pops, Prints, and the Audience’s Praise

My last show for Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week ended with iiJin at the Lincoln Center’s Pavilion– and did I luck out on the best seat for photos or what! Right in front of the entrance of the show, models quickly turned the corner into the bright lights in cool, laid back looks that hold a sense of ease, but are each intricately thought out. Red plaids, sporty varsity jackets with iiJin styled patches, bold bombers and peacoats paired with funky sneakers all presented themselves down the runway one by one. For both men and women, the designs were on point to iiJin’s cartoony-artistic point of view. Fun + fashion? Iijin has got it for fall winter this year.

New York Fashion Week Adventuring

As per usual at New York Fashion Week, I hit the ground running! Here are some of the looks I got to see and take in for Spring/Summer 2015.

Nina Athanasiou

Tucked away in a hidden location in Chelsea, Manhattan, Nina Athanasiou held her S/S 2015 show on the 8th floor of a spacious loft overlooking the cityscape. Guests chatted amongst themselves about the round-about set-up of the runway and the projector set-up for the launch of her newest fashion video. Athansiou’s line consisted of pieces nostalgic of the 1950’s with an edgy, alternative twist.

Ricardo Seco

Going to a menswear presentation isn’t the easiest thing for a short girl like myself– everyone is about foot taller. I lucked out and hit the jackpot when after the show I happened to be standing right where the models got off their pedestals (actually) and left the show promptly to begin round 2 for the next round of guests. Seco, with his new womenswear line, had a full house attend at the World Trade Center venue.

Seco incorporated the beading and warm multi‐colored details of the indigenous community into his classic, sophisticated style for men and women. He harmonized the collaboration by integrating simple pieces and classic silhouettes and added the fruit colored essentials in accessories such as handmade sunglasses, and his custom New Balance sneakers for men and women.

GEORGINE

My top pick this fashion week was hands down GEORGINE. The designer took 1970’s glamour to the next level with the bathing suit inspired eveningwear of Saint Tropez.  The collection consisted of luxurious golds, rich creams, shimmering metallics and fresh mint. Looks were accessorized with mink tote bags and beach towels as well as leather clutches in the shape of surfboards in collaboration with Max Steiner Design. I’d buy everything in the collection: OBSESSED. Join the obsession and check out her Spring/Summer 2015 line.  Perfect for a walk down not only the boardwalk, but fifth avenue gallivanting. You’re welcome.

Karolyn Pho

At Pier 59 Studios this fashion week, Karolyn Pho presented her 5th season, and 2nd runway show. Her line’s story followed a traveling woman with abstract views and perceptions. A masculine, utilitarian-esque womenswear line with a soft pastel palette and splashes of sequins here and there walked down the runway.

Shoe Heaven in the Empire Hotel

Forget diamonds—shoes are a girl’s best friend. Isa Tapia held a presentation of her phenomenal shoe line this afternoon in an intimate setting in the quarters of the Empire Hotel.  My fabulous fashion stylist friend, Liz Teich, and I were in shoe heaven. Tapia has created a line for every occasion—whether you need a classic pump, to a statement piece, it’s all there. The shoes are crafted beautifully to such full extent of detail. Absolute perfection. Take a peek at her line and let me know what you think! Shoes will be in stores starting in August.

The Fashion Olympics Begin

Today was the official kick-start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York: the official Olympian event for fashionistas around the world. Global trendsetters are flying in from all over to make appearances at shows while flaunting their best high heels (without tights) in this super frigid cold air. To make it more of a spectacle, these stylists, models, bloggers, editors and spectators alike are hopping and leaping over giant mounds of snow with pure grace in their stilettos. Impressive, we know.
